FAQs



What You Can Do with Canon Print Service
You can print to a Canon printer or multi-function device connected to a wireless LAN from the Android terminal (Android 4.4.2 or later) equipped with the print functions.

Main Functions
  • Print files from apps that support the print functions of the Android OS.
  • Automatically detect Canon devices on a network.
  • Configure print settings such as number of copies, paper size, and color mode.

  • Whether you can use this product depends on the app you are using.
  • Available print settings vary according to the app you are using.
  • Depending on the app you are using, the content displayed on the screen and the print result may differ.

Getting Started
  • Check the network connection environment.
    • Your terminal must be connected to a wireless LAN access point.
    • The access point and the Canon device you are using must be connected by LAN or wireless LAN.
  • Confirm that the Wi-Fi settings on your terminal are enabled.
  • Download Canon Print Service and install it.
  • If you are using a mobile terminal with Android 6 or earlier installed, after installing Canon Print Service, enables it. (→ "Activating the Service")
  • If you are using a mobile terminal with Android 6 or later installed, tap [Settings] > [Apps] > [Canon Print Service] > [Permissions], and allow [Storage] permission.
  • Tap [Printer settings]/[MORE OPTIONS] > [Update Printer Information] in the Canon Print Service settings screen to update the print function information.



Activating the Service
If you are using a mobile terminal with Android 6 or earlier installed, you need to activate the Canon Print Service for printing using it.

The Canon Print Service is not activated immediately after installation. activate it using one of the following methods.
  • Tap the icon displayed in the notification area immediately after installation, and activate the service in the displayed settings screen.
  • Tap [Settings] > [Printing] > [Canon Print Service], and activate the service in the displayed settings screen.

NOTE:
If you are using a mobile terminal with Android 7 or later installed, the service is automatically activated after installation.



Discovering a Device by Specifying Its IP Address
If you can't find a device by automatic discovery, you can search for it by entering the IP address of the device.

Discovering a Device from an App
  1. Tap [Print] in the menu of an app that supports the print system or [Canon Print Service] in the share menu, then tap the device name > [All printers] > [+].
  2. Tap [Canon Print Service] in [Choose print service].
    NOTE:
    If the service name is not displayed correctly in [Choose print service], restart the mobile terminal to solve this problem.
  3. Tap [Specify IP Address].
  4. Enter the IP address of the device you are using.
  5. Tap [OK].
    The device is added to the [Canon Print Service] device list.

When Discovering a Device from the Settings Screen of the Operating System
  1. Tap [Settings] > [Printing] > [Canon Print Service], and tap [] in the displayed settings screen.
  2. Tap [Add printer].
  3. Tap [Specify IP Address].
  4. Enter the IP address of the device you want to use.
  5. Tap [OK].
    The device is added to the device list of [Canon Print Service].



Printing Files
  1. Open the file or display the web page in the app that supports the print system.
  2. From the menu of the app, tap [Print]. Alternatively, tap [Canon Print Service] in the share menu.
    When you recall the device in the share menu, the device you used last is selected. Proceed to step 4. If the device you used last is not compatible with Canon Print Service, select a compatible device. Proceed to step 3.
  3. Select the device you want to use.
    If you want to use a different device, tap the device name → change the device in the printer discovery screen.
    If you cannot find the device you want to use, tap [All printers].
    Alternatively, enter the IP address of the device to manually discover the device. (→ "Discovering a Device by Specifying Its IP Address")
  4. If required, change the print settings.
    If you want to configure more detailed settings, tap [Printer settings]/[MORE OPTIONS].
    Changing the Print Settings
  5. Tap [Print].
    Printing starts.

NOTE:
  • Whether the print preview is displayed depends on the mobile terminal you are using. If it is, when you tap the area where settings are displayed, the settable items are also displayed.
  • The displayed print preview may differ from the actual print result.
  • If you cannot print with [PDF Direct Print] set to [On], you may be able to print correctly with it set to [Off].



Changing the Print Settings
The print settings you can use may vary according to the versions of the app and operating system you are using.

Descriptions of Settings

[COPIES] 
Set the number of copies to be printed.

[PAPER SIZE]
Select the paper size to be printed on.

[COLOR]
Switches between color and grayscale (black and white) printing.

[ORIENTATION]
Select the orientation of the paper you are printing on.

[PAGES]
Set the range of pages to be printed.

[Two-sided]
Switches between 1-sided and 2-sided printing.

[Printer settings]/[MORE OPTIONS]
Enables you to configure detailed settings.

NOTE:
  • If you print a document containing pages with different orientations using the 2 on 1 page layout function, all the pages are printed with the same orientation as the first page. If you use PDF Direct Print, the document will be printed with its orientation according to the specification of the printer.
  • When setting a domain name for [Domain Name] in [User Information], enter the same domain name as that required when logging into the device.



Executing Department ID Management
You can manage printing using department IDs and PINs.

NOTE:
You can use this function when the device supports the Department ID Management function. Enabling the Department ID Management function is necessary. For details, refer to the manuals provided with the device.
  1. Open the file or display the web page in the app that supports the print system.
  2. From the menu of the app, tap [Print]. Alternatively, tap [Canon Print Service] in the share menu.
    When you recall the device in the share menu, the device you used last is selected. Proceed to step 4. If the device you used last is not compatible with Canon Print Service, select a compatible device. Proceed to step 3.
  3. Select the device you want to use.
    • If you want to use a different device, tap the device name → change the device in the printer discovery screen.
    • If you cannot find the device you want to use, tap [All printers].
    • Alternatively, enter the IP address of the device to manually discover the device. (→ "Discovering a Device by Specifying Its IP Address")
  4. Tap [Printer settings]/[MORE OPTIONS].
  5. Tap [Dept. ID Mgt.].
  6. Set [Use Department ID Management] to ON.
  7. Enter the Department ID and the PIN set on the device in [Department ID] and [PIN].
  8. Tap [OK].
  9. Return to the print settings screen.
  10. Tap [Print].



Executing Secure Printing
You can attach a PIN to print data and save it in the device. This function is useful when you want to print a confidential document.

NOTE:
You can use this function when the device supports the secure print. For details, refer to the manuals provided with the device.
  1. Open the file or display the web page in the app that supports the print system.
  2. From the menu of the app, tap [Print]. Alternatively, tap [Canon Print Service] in the share menu.
    • When you recall the device in the share menu, the device you used last is selected. Proceed to step 4. If the device you used last is not compatible with Canon Print Service, select a compatible device. Proceed to step 3.
  3. Select the device you want to use.
    • If you want to use a different device, tap the device name → change the device in the printer discovery screen.
    • If you cannot find the device you want to use, tap [All printers]. Alternatively, enter the IP address of the device to manually discover the device. (→ "Discovering a Device by Specifying Its IP Address")
  4. Tap [Printer settings]/[MORE OPTIONS].
  5. Tap [Secure Print].
  6. Set [Use Secure Print] to on, and set the document name and password required when printing from a device.
  7. Tap [OK].
  8. Return to the print settings screen.
  9. Tap [Print].



The Printer Is Not Detected
Check the following:
  • Is Canon Print Service enabled in the printing settings of your terminal? (→ "Activating the Service")
  • Does the device you are using support Canon Print Service? (→ "About Supported Printers and Multi-function Devices")
  • Network settings of the Canon device:
    • Is <SNMPv1> set to [On]?
    • Is the LPR port set correctly?
    • Is the gateway address set correctly?
    • Is the subnet mask set correctly?
  • Are the Wi-Fi settings enabled on your terminal?
  • Do the wireless LAN network that the terminal is connected to and the network that the Canon device is connected to match?
    If the printer is not detected even after you have confirmed the above, disable the Wi-Fi settings of your terminal, then reconnect and try printing.
    Alternatively, enter the IP address of the device to manually discover the device. (→ "Discovering a Device by Specifying Its IP Address")



Data Is Not Printed according to the Print Settings
If you set functions that are not supported by the device you are using, the settings will not be applied. Verify the print functions that the device supports and change the print settings of this app.

[PAPER SIZE]
If you specify a paper size that is not supported by the device, the print job is printed on another paper size or a paper confirmation message is displayed on the control panel of the device.

[ORIENTATION]
Depending on the app you are using, the paper orientation setting may not be applied.

[2-sided]/[Staple]
When two-sided printing or stapling A5 or B5 size paper, there may be cases where the document is printed without being two-sided printed or stapled, depending on the device you are using.

NOTE:
The print settings you can use may vary according to the app you are using.



How to Confirm the IP address of the Printer
You can confirm the IP address from the network settings screen or menu of the device.

For details, refer to the manuals provided with the device.



The Printer Does Not Respond
Check the following points regarding the Canon device you are using.
  • Is the power turned on?
  • Is the LPD (LPR) print setting set to [ON]?
  • Is the device online?

NOTE:
The confirmation method differs for each model. For details, refer to the manuals provided with the device.



The Display in the app and the Print Result differ
Depending on the specifications of the app you are using, the content displayed on the screen and the print result may be different. If this happens, you may be able to improve the print result by one of the following methods.
  • For Microsoft Office files, PDF files, and image data, print using Canon PRINT Business.
    You can download Canon PRINT Business from Google Play.
  • For Microsoft Office files, convert the Microsoft Office file to a PDF file in Microsoft Office, display and check it, then print it using Canon Print Service.
  • If garbled characters occur when printing a PDF file or the font changes, save the PDF file with embedded fonts, then print it using Canon Print Service.



If "Printing Failed" is Displayed
Printing may fail when printing the following types of data.
  • Data that exceeds the usable memory limit for Canon Print Service.
  • Password protected PDF files.
  • Data that includes an unsupported data format.

If the data that failed to print is a Microsoft Office file, PDF file, or image data, you may be able to print it correctly using Canon PRINT Business. You can download Canon PRINT Business from Google Play.
